♠ Roulette

Roulette is a classic casino game. Roulette means "little wheel" and this glamorous and exciting game has been offering thrills and spills to players since the 17th Century. One of the more popular classic games, Roulette, is relatively easy to understand and play even when doing so for the first time.

Roulette also offers quite some depth for the more serious player. Unlike Poker or Blackjack where you, as a player, have a part to play in your success, Roulette is a totally random game and you have no input as to which number the ball finally settles on. Lady Luck plays the biggest role in this game and of course laying those chips down on the roulette baize in the smartest way possible.

How to Play Roulette;

Playing the game of Roulette is really very simple and so is starting to play the game, you place your chip on the number that you think the ball in going to land on and if your number comes up you win 35 chips! that is a winning ratio of 35/1. This is roulette explained in the most elementary of terms, it can of course be more complex than this, and there are many different betting options can be placed. Roulette offers the best odds in the casino it has the lowest house advantage of 2.7% when compared to other games (single zero roulette), lets have a look at the different betting variables you can play.

There are two main kinds of Roulette played online they are European Roulette and American Roulette, recently Aussie or rapid roulette has made an appearance online as well.

European Roulette has one zero on the table and American Roulette has two zeros on the baize and in the wheel. On each table there are 36 numbers which alternate in colour between Red and Black, at the side of these 36 numbers there are two sections which are further divided into six sections and at the bottom you have three boxes which allow betting on 12 numbers at a time.

Look confusing? It's not really, take a look a the roulette layout diagram and the chips we have placed strategically to illustrate the various betting options.(they are the little blue numbered chips we have placed strategically on the roulette baize) and have numbered and given each bet detailed descriptions below:(for demonstration purposes we have used the single zero European roulette game)

A Roulette Baize and a diagrammatic explanation on how to play and place bets on this classic casino gameBlue Chip no 1: This placement is called a straight up bet, and is where you place your chip squarely on one number. You can place as many straight up bets as you like on the roulette baize. The payout for this bet is 35 to 1.

Blue Chip no 2: The placement of this chip is called a split and covers two numbers at once, they lie next to each other in any direction. Here we have covered no 2 and no 5. Should either number come up you will be paid 17 to 1 on your bet.

Blue Chip no 3: You will see that the chip lies placed at beginning of the row of three numbers, this is called a row, in this instance we have covered numbers 10,11 and 12. Should the ball land on any of these numbers you will be paid out 11 to 1 on your bet.

Blue Chip no 4: This chip has been placed in a corner that covers four numbers simultaneously and is called a corner bet. We have covered the numbers 7,8,10 and 11 here. Should any of these numbers be the one that the ball lands on then you will be paid out at 8 to 1 on your bet.

Blue Chip no 5: This chip is placed in one of the bottom boxes which allows you to place a bet on the entire row of 12 numbers it falls under. This is called a column bet. In this instance we have placed it under the second column of numbers. If the ball lands on any of these 12 numbers you will be paid at 2 to1.

Blue Chip no 6: This chip is placed in what is a double row bet, it covers two rows and all six numbers that fall within the two rows your chip covers. Again simply called a Six Number bet. Should any one of these numbers come up your payout or winnings are paid out at 5 to 1.

Blue Chip no 7: This is a bet placed on either the red or the black diamond on the table baize. We have placed ours on red here. This is called an even money bet where you bet on the number being either black or red. Note: The minimum bet requirement is often higher on an even money bet than on any of the above mentioned bets, it is usually 5 times higher than the other minimum bets. Should you win you are paid out at 1 to 1.

Blue Chip no 8: To the right of the 36 numbers your first three boxes are what are called the dozens. These cover the numbers 1-12, 13-24 and 25-36. Our chip has been placed on the 2nd dozen in the diagram. Should you win you are paid out at 2 to 1.

Blue Chip no 9: This is another even-money bet, you bet on either an odd number or an even number. Should you win you are paid out on a 1 to 1 basis. (again an increased minimum bet is usually required).

Blue Chip no 10: Our last blue chip shows a bet placed on either the first half of the numbers on the baize 1-18 or the second half 19-36. We have placed our chip in the 1-18 box. Once again this is an even-money bet and should your winning are 1 to 1. Once again this usually requires a higher minimum bet which is imposed by the casino.

Roulette Tips;

The number 0 zero is the number that give the house its major edge. Should the ball land on the number 0 you either loose your entire bet or your chips/s can be put into jail. You can cover this and eradicate this happening by either by placing a chip directly on the number 0 or by splitting it with one or more of the three first numbers i.e.: 1-3.

Even money wagers (red or black, 1-18 or 19-36, odd or even) reduce the houses edge to 1.35% as even if the ball lands on 0 the casino will halve your bet but you will not loose everything. Although these bets require an increased wager the odds of winning are the greatest.

Keep betting minimum amounts until you win. You can then increase your bets little by little while you are on a winning streak. When the streak ends stop playing!

For placing bets on individual numbers determine which numbers you are going to bet on and around before you begin playing and stick to them.

Remember with Roulette that there is no betting system that applies to this game. The law of averages will not work here either as the outcome of where the ball lands is truly unpredictable and will not work over a few roulette sessions.

History of Roulette;

In the history of gambling some of the earliest recorded games used some form of a spinning wheel to play and place bets with, these date back to Ancient Greek and Roman times. The Greeks used to spin their shields with certain sections marked on them balanced on top of their spears and the Romans used chariot wheels in a similar fashion.

In the 17th Century a guy called Blaise Pascal was experimenting on perpetual motion and it is from this that the modern roulette wheel was devised. A small amount of effort is applied and the wheel spins for a considerable amount of time before coming to rest. Roly Poly an early forerunner to Roulette became popular in England in the 17thC until it was banned later in the same century, alternate games were created to overcome this ban and then developing from there it developed into one of the popular classic casino games that we know it as today.
